\nHarro's words demand reflection. Her suggested exercises of self-evaluation are useful and instructive, but her utopian vision of their outcome is weak and lacks a true comprehension of history, the global political economy we live in today, and perhaps even human nature. It's an interesting life, being both an agent\/dominant member of society and a subordinate\/target member simultaneously. I am a female (-), white (+), working class (-), American (+++) receiving an education (+) on funds borrowed from the government (-). In many respects I am lucky and in many respects I am limited. My awareness of these things does not remove me from the limitations of my reality. Awareness certainly may shape my goals and decisions but it does not singularly determine the outcome of my life. Yes, the self-awareness Harro calls for is necessary to break the cycle of socialization (and oppression) on an individual level. However, even if masses of individuals went through this exercise of transformation it would not necessarily (or even sufficiently) "change the world" as she visions.
